What should I do? Where do I start?
First and foremost, when you’re investing in any sort of project, make sure you know what you’re going to do with it!
Starting a production company or any business venture requires careful planning and strategic decision-making. It’s essential to have a clear understanding of your investment and its intended purpose. Whether it’s equipment, resources, or talent, knowing how each component fits into your overall strategy is crucial. Ensuring that the economics balance out is vital for sustainable growth and profitability. Additionally, take advantage of the plethora of content creation tools available to kickstart your brand’s presence and refine your vision. These tools allow you to experiment, learn, and repeat without significant financial commitments. As you gain clarity on your brand identity and content strategy, you can gradually bring in professionals to elevate your productions to the next level. From there you can lay a solid foundation for your production company or business, setting the stage for long-term success and growth.
Tips when creating content
Attention to detail can make all the difference! Ensure you’re working with high-quality video and audio, as it is an important factor to viewer engagement. Remember, content reigns supreme; prioritize delivering valuable and compelling material to your audience. Make sure your text is not only legible but also easily digestible, enhancing viewer comprehension. When setting up shots, consider depth and perspective to create visually captivating scenes, and always scout locations to find the best backdrop for your content. Lastly, inject visual interest into your videos, whether through dynamic graphics, captivating scenery, or engaging props, to keep your audience captivated throughout.
How do I gain more visibility?
More recently, Reema and Sania have found that in order to gain visibility for your company, crafting a compelling piece that encapsulates who you are, what you do, and why people should engage with you really helps put yourself and your company out in the mix. This content serves as your company’s narrative, helping others understand your mission and value proposition. Additionally, take advantage of social media platforms to share your story and your work as well as connect with your audience. Actively participate in industry events, whether by attending or speaking, to establish thought leadership and expand your network. Other networking tools such as newsletters or blogs can keep your audience informed and engaged. While prioritizing your own content may seem challenging amidst competing demands, diversifying your efforts across various channels is key. In a landscape where opportunities often arise through referrals and word of mouth, maintaining visibility through consistent and diverse outreach ensures your company remains on the radar of potential clients and collaborators.
Any Practices, Mantras?
In this industry and in the workforce in general, there is pressure for women entrepreneurs to get everything right. Give yourself the grace that you can’t do everything, it’s okay! Put in place practices that can function without you; you don’t need to keep everything at the top of your mind. For instance, for social media engagement tasks, schedule your posts so you don’t need to actively remember to post them yourselves. Choose what you need to be doing and what you don’t. Accept that sometimes something like a newsletter or a social media post won’t come out for a couple months because of a busy schedule or other important tasks. Definitely learn to cut yourself slack and choose wisely how to spend your time. Think about what would be nice to have vs. what you need to keep the business flowing.
What have you learned since starting this company?
It’s definitely an ongoing evolution. The concept of work-life balance is very important–sometimes we may feel that the more hours you put in, the better the work is, but that is not always the case. You need to realize what the trade-off is, because life is far more important than the work you do. The busiest days are when you are optimizing your work hours if you’re focused and doing good work. Pause, replenish, and get back at it the next day. You don’t need to pretend you’re doing work to feel productive. Helpful tip: don’t have your work email or other work communication apps on your phone, it can help you to not always be “on duty”–this way, you’re choosing when to sit down and work.
